PRESS RELEASE
Alright
Sunday L.E.S.
January 2009, New York
You are invited to a book launch on Wednesday January 21, 2009, from 6-8pm at Sunday L.E.S., 237 Eldridge Street,
South Storefront, New York, NY 10002
Jude Broughan is pleased to announce the release of her second artist's book, Alright.
A visual essay featuring color and black-and-white photographs and photomontages, Alright maps Broughan's fascination with ideas around travel and transition, nourishment and sustenance, our internal life and our external environment. As she did in her first book, Relatively Recent, 2008, Broughan juxtaposes images of travel (the liminal spaces of the airport and the passenger 'plane), food (vintage recipe-books; faded takeout menu displays), and plants (moss included) with snaps of domestic and studio interiors, works and works-in- progress. In plotting a non-linear route through these components, Broughan brilliantly tracks the pervasive influence of memory and imagination on our everyday journeys and destinations.
Alright includes an essay by Michael Wilson and is presented in a signed and numbered edition of 150. Also available on the night will be two large unique prints of spreads from the book.
Jude Broughan is a New Zealand artist living in Brooklyn, New York.
