PRESS RELEASE

Relatively Recent
September 2008

Jude Broughan is pleased to announce the release of her first artist’s book, Relatively Recent.

A forty-page visual essay featuring color and black-and-white photographs and photomontages, Relatively Recent maps Broughan’s fascination with ideas around nourishment and sustenance, fallibility and imperfection, the “natural” and the “native.” Juxtaposing images of food (home cooking and vintage recipe-book pages; faded takeout menu displays), plants (weeds included), and travel (the battered fixtures and fittings of commercial airliners) with snaps of her own sculptural experiments, she conjures an evocative document of everyday human life as it intersects with the world at large.

Relatively Recent is presented in a signed and numbered limited edition of 75. Jude Broughan is a New Zealand artist living in Brooklyn, New York.
